Life at The Gables

At The Gables, each resident is considered as an individual who has the right to exceptional care. They are entitled to respectful support delivered in a nurturing manner and in an individual-centred approach. The views of our residents, their families, friends and carers are of utmost importance to us. We strive to work together to ensure each resident’s needs are met. We put people at the centre of everything we do.

The Gables operates an “Open Door” policy. Friends and family are most welcome to visit at any time and be involved in care planning.  They are also invited to enjoy meals with their loved ones and attend our regular social activities should they wish to do so. Our staff are always available for questions, comments or suggestions. We would love to hear your feedback and we encourage the use of our satisfaction survey.

Activities

The Gables offers the opportunity to engage in meaningful activities for all of our residents.

We employ a full time activities organiser who arranges a wide range of group and one to one activities. Some of these activities include baking, bingo, nature walks, arts and crafts and gardening.  We organise regular visits from various entertainers as well as a local fitness instructor to conduct physical sessions involving non-weight bearing exercises.

Suitable activities will naturally vary between individuals and being part of a close-knit community means that activities will be tailored around each person and their particular tastes.

Additionally, residents will often suggest or develop their own activity ideas to celebrate a special occasion or to mark significant event. Staff will work with residents to develop the activities around a certain theme which are then planned over a number of days e.g. shopping or group craft projects.

Eating well at The Gables

At The Gables we understand the importance of good, nutritious food.

Meal times are an important part of everyone’s day – and it is no different for service users. Just like at home, residents have the choice to eat together in a family environment, or alone if they prefer, within protected meal times. During these set hours, our homes do not allow access or phone calls from the outside, so that residents can enjoy meals undisturbed.

Our Head Chef works with Apetito to develop our own varied restaurant-style dining menu, with meals to suit everyone. With specialist nutritionist and dietician input we  provide healthy meals to suit all tastes and preferences, including the renowned Free From range for people with allergies, Mini-Meals Extra (smaller meals packed with energy), home-from-home classics such as cottage pie, and an Ethnic range that includes kosher and halal options. There really is something for everyone.

Our meals don’t just taste great, they look good and are packed with specialist nutrition, helping everyone to eat for health whatever their circumstances.

Throughout the day, tea, coffee and soft drinks and snacks are readily available.   Two kitchenettes are available on each floor for residents/relatives to make their own drinks if required
